Some people find birthdays weird. I actually rather like them, I think we don’t celebrate life enough.
Writing this from my backyard, on my birthday sunday morning, tank full of glee and warmth from the energy last night, people chattering, people laughing, people saying silly things, people making connections, people being people. We are at our best when we’re open and interested and engaged with each other. To me that is the celebration of life, that we are here to taste it together, giving it the full attention together.
Birthdays are a good excuse to commemorate that.
Anais Nin said “We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.” I say we celebrate to taste life twice, in solitude and in company.
I’m just incredibly grateful to be surrounded by friends, old and new, who see me, who are there to witness this life together. Thank you.
